Youth in Philanthropy is a voluntary committee of approximately 25 students between the grades of 9 to 12 at the DRCSS. The youth have volunteered for an number of organizations, which include: the Diabetes Association clothing drive, Canadian Cancer Society, gift wrapping Christmas gifts in the mall, among other activities. This eager group of students also hosted a Variety Night in November with the proceeds going towards 2 scholarships valued at $250 each! They have had bake sales to raise money and most recently held a shoe drive for Boxes of Love.

Another project that is producing much excitement among the group, is purchasing goats for villages around the world, along with subsidiing childrens education! YIP is able to do this through the fundraising they have done throughout the year.

This group is focusing on local issues and global improvement! Currently, the group has shifted to more of student focused committee, with the student Chairs being Mackenzie Duke and Katherine Slobodian, along with their supervising teacher, Aynsley Smith. The students are able to take a leadership role and learn how to run a committee. The Youth in Philanthropy group will be calling for grants this school year, and will be able to give back to their community once again!
